International Women’s Day celebrations at ASOS

ASOS launched a series of engaging events aimed at highlighting the themes of "Accelerate Action" and "For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment." This year's celebrations reflect a strong commitment to driving meaningful progress towards gender equity across all aspects of life.

Over the past few weeks, ASOS has been bustling with activities dedicated to women's empowerment. Key events included:

• Inspiring Photoshoot: ASOS held a unique photoshoot at their GLH and Leavesden offices featuring female-identifying talent within the company. This artistic celebration served as a visual representation of women's achievements and strength.
  
• Engaging Talks: Collaborations with organizations such as Hertility, Beyond Equality, Samphire Neuroscience, Refuge UK, and Rights of Women provided valuable insights and discussions. Dr. Helen O'Neill's talk on "Optimising Hormonal Health" was particularly well-received, highlighting important health topics for women.
  
• Networking and Mentorship: A mentoring mixer brought ASOSers together, fostering relationships that encourage growth and development. The relaunch of the Women's in Tech (WIT) network came with an emphasis on uplifting one another, aligning perfectly with the IWD ethos.
  
• Themed Gym Classes: Adding a dose of fitness to the celebrations, the company organized IWD-themed gym classes, encouraging employees to engage in both physical well-being and community spirit.

Connecting with Our Past Selves

A poignant initiative involved ASOS employees reflecting on their journeys through a creative lens. Photographer Georgia invited colleagues to participate in a photoshoot holding images of their younger selves, symbolizing pride in their personal growth.

Highlighting Women in Technology

A standout feature of this year's celebrations was the spotlight on Srinija Potluri, ASOS's first-ever female Principal Engineer. Through her story, Srinija offered advice to women aspiring to break into tech, reinforcing the importance of representation and mentorship in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Community Impact and Collaboration

Gemma Harvey, a lead organizer and advocate for women’s initiatives at ASOS, expressed immense pride in the company's networks, including Women’s+, Women in Tech, and Driving Inclusivity in Customer Care. She thanked all partners and speakers for contributing to a lineup of impactful events and shared highlights, such as the launch of Beyond Equality, which emphasized the critical role men and boys play in promoting gender equality and preventing violence.
