Ireland makes it through to Eurovision semi-finals with gay love song

Ryan O’Shaughnessy, a former Britain’s Got Talent finalist, has made it through to the Eurovision finals with his song ‘Together’, about a gay couple coming to terms with breaking up. The song featured an accompanying video with dancers Alan McGrath and Kevin O’Dwyer, who played a couple dancing through the streets of Dublin.

The dancers reprised their roles in the video for the live performance.

“It was amazing seeing the video come to life in the way it did, sticking with the original concept that love is universal and there are testing moments in every relationship,” O’Shaughnessy told the press.

The broadcast was almost banned in Russia, which forbids “gay propaganda” from being displayed. Learning of this O’Shaughnessy tweeted: “The Russians are now threatening a broadcasting ban because of my video for ‘Together’. Anti-gay propaganda regime at its finest! Hilarious if you ask me… #IDareYou”

Russia let the broadcast play, as under Eurovision rules if any country disrupts or censors the broadcast they will face a ban from the singing competition.
