Italy’s ‘Gay Center’ Loses €10,000 Worth of Donations & Goods in Burglary

January 28, 2019

The Gay Center, an Italian LGBT+ organisation, has been the subject of a massive burglary. The group has lost more than €10,000 worth of donations and goods.

“The damage is first and foremost to the daily work of the volunteers. Stealing donations and charitable funds is an act of cowardice,” the group wrote on a Facebook status that shared photos of the destruction inflicted on their headquarters.

The group use their funds to support a hotline for LGBT+ Italians who have suffered homophobic assaults, as well as supporting LGBT+ refugee shelters and HIV and STD testing centres.

“The damage isn’t only financial, it is also upsetting to see the violation of rooms where, every day, we provide support and listen to those who come to us,” added Gay Center spokesperson Fabrizio Marrazzo.

“The CCTV footage shows the thieves comfortably walking around and calmly pillaging whatever was available.”
