Jamaica bans US preacher who believes gay men should be killed
February 1, 2018Jamaica has denied entry to American preacher Steven Anderson after a petition signed by 38,000 people reaches the government. The move is somewhat surprising given the fact that the Caribbean country still criminalises gay sex.
Anderson told The Gleaner newspaper: “I had a connecting flight in Atlanta, so as soon as I got to Atlanta, Delta Air Lines told me that they received a notification from Jamaica that I was not going to be allowed to enter, I was kind of surprised that Jamaica would ban me for my views on homosexuality.”
The petition was organised by LGBT+ activist Jay John. “His literal interpretation of the Bible regarding killing of gay people should not be echoed in a society like Jamaica,” John said.
This comes months after Anderson was deported from Botswana for saying that gay men should be “stoned to death” on radio.
