Jamie Lee Curtis Announces Film About “Stand-In Mum” at Same Sex Weddings

January 6, 2019

Jamie Lee Curtis has announced she’s going to star and produce a film about the woman who volunteers as a “stand-in” mum at gay weddings, reports the Washington Post.

Sara Cunningham, who wrote a bestselling 2014 book about coming to terms and accepting her son’s homosexuality, volunteers to stand in as a mother for those gay brides or grooms whose parents refuse to attend.

Curtis was so moved by Cunningham’s story she spent three days with her family and decided to make a film about her.

“I continue to be thrilled as her movement is catching on. I hope to do justice to her story and the story of so many marginalised people in the LGBTQ community,” Curtis said.

“(The idea) came from hearing from several same-sex couples — how their parents refuse to attend their wedding, or even acknowledge their relationships,” Cunningham had told Buzzfeed last year.

“People need hope — I sure do — and we need to be that for each other in any way, shape, or form. Hope never disappoints.”
