Jeremy Corbyn comes out in support of self-identified women

Speaking yesterday to Andrew Marr on the BBC, Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn came out in support for transgendered people. The interview follows several controversies surrounding trans people and the Labour party. Feminist Venice Allen was suspended from the party after posting highly charged and transphobic comments online. New rules were introduced last year to toughen the party’s stance on discrimination.
Corbyn was asked by Marr: “Do you think that a self-identified transgender woman is a woman?”
He replied: “Yes, the position of the party is that where you’ve self-identified as a woman, you are treated as a woman… The point is where there’s self-identification, these people have been through a big decision, a big process, a big trauma. Let’s look at the human beings in front of us.”
