Jordan Peterson Could Lose Psychology License Following Transphobic Social Media Posts

Far-right media figure Jordan Peterson is at risk of losing his license as a clinical psychologist following harmful social media posts targeting the transgender community. The Canadian psychologist has been informed that he must take part in a compulsory coaching program issued by the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) if he does not want his certification revoked.

Peterson took to Twitter to reveal this information, criticizing the Canadian government and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau directly, calling the country’s legal counsel “dangerously unreliable.” In the thread, Peterson spoke of how he was facing “public disgrace” and “mandatory political re-education" due to what he claims were around a “dozen” complaints from across the globe.

“I have been accused of harming people (although none of the complainants involved in the current action were clients of mine, past or present, or were even acquainted with any of my clients),” Peterson wrote. The thread of tweets currently has over 100 thousand likes.

Pink News reported on Petersons’ previous comments regarding the LGBTQ+ community, with specific focus on his harmful rhetoric concerning transgender people. This includes statements comparing being trans to a “contagion” and a “satanic ritual abuse.”

They also provided evidence of tweets and audio recordings of Peterson’s anti-LGBTQ+ beliefs and harmful rhetoric, including drawing comparisons between the transgender community and schizophrenia. Peterson was banned from Twitter following the repeated and deliberate misgendering and deadnaming of trans actor Elliot Page. His page was only restored when Elon Musk bought Twitter.

Peterson, who has over 15 million followers across all his social media platforms, continues to spread an anti-trans narrative to his audience. The consequences of this behavior are imminent, with the College of Psychologists of Ontario requesting his presence at the coaching program in due course.

When asked for a statement, the CPO told Global News, “The college is not authorized to discuss this matter as per the confidentiality provisions of section 36 of Ontario’s Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991.”
