Khalid announces first new album following his coming out

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Khalid announced the upcoming release of his fourth studio album, "After the Sun Goes Down," scheduled to drop on October 10. This marks Khalid's first full-length project since publicly coming out as gay.

The album is spearheaded by the single "In Plain Sight," a blend of pop and soul, which Khalid describes as a declaration of self-empowerment. "It's about taking my power back, living in my truth, and being able to express myself freely," Khalid stated. "I’m excited for my fans to experience this new era with me, not just musically, but personally."

As reported by Gay Times, Khalid confirmed his sexuality on November 22, 2024, after being outed, telling fans: “I got outed and the world still continues to turn… I am not ashamed of my sexuality. I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality it ain’t nobody’s business! But I am okay with me.”

The announcement follows Khalid's emotional performance at WorldPride DC 2025 on June 8, his first-ever Pride event. Overcome with emotion, Khalid expressed his gratitude to the crowd, stating, "Before I continue, I wanna thank you guys so much for accepting me. Thank you for supporting me. It means the world to me. It makes me so happy. I feel like I’m here on the stage." He acknowledged the significance of the moment, adding, "It feels pretty big, and I didn’t know I was going to cry, but I’m an emotional person."

In a recent interview, Khalid spoke about the liberation he feels in being his true self. "That doesn’t change because the world finds out I’m gay," he said. "Because I don’t change because the world finds out I’m gay.”

Since his breakthrough in 2016 with "Location," Khalid has achieved global success, with ten of his songs surpassing one billion streams on Spotify. His impressive catalog includes collaborations with artists such as Billie Eilish ("Lovely"), benny blanco and Halsey ("Eastside"), and Normani ("Love Lies").
