Kim Petras becomes second trans woman with wax figure at Madame Tussauds.

Singer-songwriter Kim Petras has received the honour of having her own wax figure at Madame Tussauds, making her only the second trans woman to be bestowed with this recognition.

In a video on Madame Tussauds Berlin’s website, Petras expressed, “The highlight of my career has been my wax figure at Madame Tussauds, there’s no question about it,” as she collaborated with the museum’s technicians on her figure. The sitting for her wax figure took place in Los Angeles and lasted four hours, resulting in a lifelike resemblance, according to ‘MSN’.

In 2015, actress Laverne Cox became the first trans person to receive a wax figure in Madame Tussauds’ 200-year history. Cox unveiled her figure at Madame Tussauds San Francisco, coinciding with that year’s San Francisco Pride celebrations. She remarked, “I am so deeply honoured to have been asked to be part of the Madame Tussauds legacy. I hope that this will be a source of inspiration for everyone who encounters it to believe that their dreams matter and are possible.”

Cox’s achievement set the stage for Petras, who hails from Germany and is renowned for her collaboration with non-binary artist Sam Smith on the song “Unholy.” The duo earned a Grammy Award for best pop duo/group performance for the track.

Petras transitioned medically at 16, and, at the time, international media reported her as the youngest person in the world to undergo gender reassignment surgery. She later stated, “I was asked if I feel like a woman now – but the truth is I have always felt like a woman – I just ended up in the wrong body.”

Recently, Petras has been advocating for trans visibility and expressed her concerns about society’s treatment of trans individuals in today’s political environment, stating she is “extremely alarmed” by it.
