Lesbian couple attacked on London bus
June 10, 2019Earlier this month, Melania Geymonat and her partner Chris suffered a homophobic attack whilst travelling on a London bus because they refused to kiss each other when pestered by a group of men, the BBC reports.
Ms Geymonat said: "They surrounded us and started saying really aggressive stuff, things about sexual positions, lesbians and claiming we could kiss so they could watch us"
Despite trying to make light of the situation, when they did not comply there were attacked and left bloody and bruised, both women were taken to hospital for minor treatment and have since been discharged.
1st June is the beginning of LGBT Pride month, the month chosen to commemorate the Stonewall riots and when traditionally Pride organisations around the world celebrate.
This attack comes in the wake of the murder of Chynal Lindsey in Dallas, Texas, a black trans woman and the 2nd to be killed within the last three weeks.
Here in the UK we see the protests happening in Birmingham and most recently the NSPCC bowed to the pressure of a transphobic hate campaign and cut ties with Munroe Bergdorf, leaving many within the LGBTQ community concerned for the wellbeing of young trans children who use the service.
We know that the battle for #equality is far from won and only together as a LGBTQI community can we thrive.
