The lesbian high school comedy “Booksmart” has been raking in good reviews and excitement from the queer community.
The film, directed by Olivia Wilde, is about Amy, a lesbian student who on her last day of school decides to finally go to a highschool party after years of being a wallflower.
The film also stars Jessica Williams, Lisa Kudrow and Jason Sudeikis.
Beanie Feldstein, the actress who plays Amy’s best friend, Molly, actually came out as a lesbian during press for the movie.
“My partner is a woman. There’s a love scene between two girls and they’re fumbling with their sneakers and they can’t get their jeans off,” she said at a South by Southwest panel a month ago.
“All of those moments, they make me tear up because representation is really important.
“Also, Kaitlyn’s character is not the only gay character in the film. So there you go, what an incredible thing our film is doing.
“I think if I could have seen our film earlier, I would have found myself a bit sooner.”
