London planning bid to host World Pride 2030

October 31, 2024

World Pride 2030 might take place in the capital, as Pride in London organisers have announced their intention to bid for the 10-day festival. As ‘BBC’ reports, Christopher Joell-Deshields, the head of Pride in London, stated that the event would be more than “just a parade,” incorporating discussions on topics like LGBTQ+ inclusive education and the prohibition of so-called conversion therapy.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan referred to the city as “a beacon of inclusiveness, acceptance, and diversity.” He expressed being “hugely proud” that London is among the contenders to host the event.

World Pride is an international event that promotes visibility and awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, and queer issues. Washington DC is set to host World Pride in 2025, followed by Amsterdam in 2026. London was originally slated to host World Pride in 2012, but had to scale back the event due to a funding shortfall.
