"Love will always triumph over hate” Sadiq Khan on London Pride 2024
July 1, 2024After another celebration of Pride in London, Mayor Sadiq Khan has declared that “love will always triumph over hate.”
Speaking exclusively to PinkNews on Saturday (29 June), Sadiq Khan expressed how he’s “proud every year” of the community and allies who unite from around the world in “solidarity and celebration.”
This year’s event was filled with queer joy, featuring performances by headliner Bebe Rexha, X Factor’s Janice Robinson, and RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Ginger Johnson.
According to ‘MSN’, Khan further stated: “Pride is one of the highlights of my year, and it is an honor to have participated in every march since I was first elected as mayor in 2016. Our capital’s LGBTQI+ communities make a significant contribution to life in London.”
“London was the first UK city to hold a Pride event in the 1970s, and every year the march and accompanying events have grown stronger. Pride is not only a celebration; it’s a bold statement of defiance against those who seek to divide and discriminate. However, while our city may be one of the most inclusive in the world, there is still work to be done to achieve true equality. Many people in our society still experience discrimination, and it is essential that we all work together to address this.”
“As we strive to build a fairer and better London, I will continue to do everything I can to ensure the capital remains an open and welcoming place for all, showing that love will always triumph over hate. Happy Pride!”

Last year, Khan supported Pride in London’s campaign, Never March Alone: Championing Trans Allyship.
“London is renowned globally as a beacon of inclusion and diversity,” he said in 2023. “Pride contributes to this reputation. The march of solidarity and celebration has helped to change our society, and I’m pleased that this year’s campaign will support the capital’s trans and non-binary community.”
The previous year, he announced that Pride in London would receive over £600,000 (approximately $740,000 at the time) in city funding to ensure the event continues until 2027. He informed PinkNews that the LGBTQ+ community and its allies “can’t be complacent” in the fight for equality and correctly warned that trans people were being used as “pawns by politicians.”
This year’s event takes place just days before the UK’s general election.
