Male Minnesota Vikings cheerleaders respond to homophobic criticism
August 20, 2025Two members of the Minnesota Vikings cheerleading squad responded to recent homophobic remarks in the perfect way. Blaize Shiek and Louie Conn, who are part of a growing number of male cheerleaders in the NFL, have faced a barrage of negative comments on social media.
The criticism, largely fueled by conservative commentators and figures, questioned the presence of male cheerleaders in a traditionally female-dominated role. Individuals like Kevin Sorbo and Antonio Brown made disparaging remarks.
In response, Shiek and Conn posted a photo on Instagram, smiling in their cheerleading uniforms with the caption: "Wait… did someone say our name?"
The post was met with an outpouring of support from Vikings fans, who praised the pair for their courage and visibility. One fan responded, "There’s no louder activism than being loud and proud". Another commented, "The both of you are heroes to people and kids everywhere. Keep being awesome."
The Minnesota Vikings organization has also voiced its support for Shiek and Conn. In a statement, the team emphasized that "every member of the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders program has an impressive dance background and went through the same rigorous audition process." The organization added that it supports all of its cheerleaders and is proud of their role as ambassadors.
