Malta Hosts EuroPride 2023 Celebrations

EuroPride, the pan-European LGBTQ+ event that rotates annually among different European cities, is taking place in Valletta, the capital of Malta, for this year's festivities. The city's historical significance and famously progressive attitudes towards LGBTQ+ rights have made it a fitting destination for the event.

The 11-day-long celebration began with an opening ceremony held at Castille Square, where activists, allies, and members of the LGBTQ+ community joined together to celebrate love, acceptance, and represent the ongoing struggle for equality. The event was marked with live performances, empowering speeches, and heartfelt testimonials from individuals who have fought tirelessly for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

Numerous events and activities are being held around Valletta across the course of EuroPride, showcasing a range of queer identities. Cultural events, workshops, panel discussions, film screenings, and live performances are just some of the activities available to attend throughout the week. The city’s Pride Parade, featuring striking floats, colorful costumes, and lively music, is set to wind its way through the city streets, ending with a party in St. George's Square.

The event provides an opportunity for LGBTQ+ activists, community members, and allies to come together, share experiences, and learn from one another. Workshops and panel discussions focus on critical issues such as LGBTQ+ healthcare, transgender rights, and challenges faced by queer individuals in various European countries. These sessions aim to foster dialogue and create an environment conducive to positive change and progress.

Earlier this year, Christina Aguilera was announced as the headline performer at the Official EuroPride Valletta 2023 Concert. The concert will take place on Saturday (September 16th). The ‘Candyman’ singer has been a longstanding ally of the LGBTQ+ community and will be bringing her endless stream of hits to stage for show that will be free to attend.

“Get ready to be blown away as Christina, with her powerful vocals and captivating stage presence, takes center stage at The Granaries on September 16th,” EuroPride said in its official announcement. “This concert is all about celebrating diversity, equality, and inclusivity, bringing together people from across Europe and beyond in a vibrant display of solidarity."
