Man Accused Of Killing Son For Being Gay Appears In Court
November 17, 2019A man, namely Wendell Melton, has been accused of killing his son, Giovanni, for being gay.
Melton appeared in court in Nevada last week.
Giovanni’s mother, Veronica Melton, has openly said she believes that Wendell killed their son because he was gay, ‘Out’ reports.
“When my son died, I died. I died that day. My heart was broken.
“When I was married to him, he would make very disparaging remarks against people that were gay, and to me I know that he was homophobic,” she said about Wendell.
Veronica has said that her son came out to her a couple of months before he died and she believes he came out to his father around the same time.
Giovanni’s former foster mother, Sonja Jones, claimed that Wendell had threatened Giovanni with a gun after catching him with his boyfriend.
“He hated the fact that his son was gay," said Jones. "I'm sure that inside of his mind, he would rather have a dead son than a gay son."
Wendell, faces charges of “open murder, felony possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and first-degree felony child abuse”, according to the ‘Advocate’.
Wendell has claimed his son’s death was an accident. He is scheduled to appear in court again in February.
