Man Who Threatened Stabbing at Brighton Pride Now in Custody

August 7, 2018

Police have arrested a man who threatened to stab Brighton Pride goers on train, reports Metro U.K.

The man started hurling homophobic abuse at those returning from Pride on a 4.30am train back to London. According to Benjamin Butterworth, a 26 year-old Pride goer who spoke to Metro UK, there was no doubt they were targeted because of their perceived sexual orientation.

“He started yelling down the carriage that everyone was poofs, faggots, ‘batty men.’ He said gay people were filthy and God did not make a man to lie with another man. It was all unprovoked.”

The man claimed he had a knife in his pocket and started threatening the passengers. Butterworth said people on the train shouted back, but that no one knew whether he was bluffing or not about the knife.

“He said he has two children and he needs to tell gay people they’re wrong because gay people are paedophiles, and he doesn’t want his children to meet gays.”

The man, a 28-year-old, was apprehended at 5.30am and is currently in custody on charges of public order offense.
