‘Matilda’ star Mara Wilson goes viral with critique of U.S.A trans sports ban 

Queer actress Mara Wilson has gained significant attention on social media following her pointed criticism of President Donald Trump’s executive order, which bans trans women and girls from participating in women’s sports.

According to ‘Yahoo! News’, Wilson expressed her views on Bluesky this past Wednesday, after Trump signed his fourth executive order specifically targeting trans individuals since he took office on January 20.

“I know pointing out hypocrisy doesn’t matter anymore,” the former child star wrote on Bluesky on February 6, “but if there’s one person I wouldn’t want to be the judge of who goes into locker rooms, it would be the man who openly boasted about walking into dressing rooms of underage girls.”

The order, named ‘Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,’ restricts trans girls and women from joining female sports divisions and demands immediate action against any school or athletic association that “deny women single-sex sports and single-sex locker rooms.”

During a signing ceremony with young female athletes present, Trump falsely asserted that “men are beating up, injuring, and cheating our women and our girls,” and announced that “women’s sports will be only for women,” according to the Advocate.

At the event, Trump declared, “Under the Trump administration, we will defend the proud tradition of female athletes, and we will not allow men to beat up, injure and cheat our women and our girls,” surrounded by young female athletes.

Wilson’s critique highlighted that while Trump opposes trans women — referring to them as “men” — in women’s locker rooms, he had previously bragged on Howard Stern’s radio show in 2005 about his access backstage at his beauty pageants, where women were frequently undressed. Trump owned the Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA pageants, the latter involving participants as young as 15.

“Well, I’ll tell you the funniest is that before a show, I’ll go backstage and everyone’s getting dressed, and everything else, and you know, no men are anywhere, and I’m allowed to go in because I’m the owner of the pageant and therefore I’m inspecting it,” Trump remarked, as reported by CNN. “You know, I’m inspecting because I want to make sure that everything is good.”

Wilson, who came out as bi/queer in 2017, has a history of speaking against entrenched conservatism. She has previously voiced opposition to Trump, criticised ICE, and challenged anti-abortion activists through her posts on X (formerly Twitter).
