myGwork’s Country Ambassador Scheme: building LGBTQ+ professional networks around the world

August 4, 2026

In 2026, more LGBTQ+ professionals are crossing borders for work, study and new life opportunities. A move to another country or city often reshapes both personal and professional life. Finding inclusive workplaces, understanding local culture and rebuilding a network can feel challenging without guidance.

myGwork’s Country Ambassador Scheme exists for this exact moment. It links LGBTQ+ professionals who are new to a place with local members who already understand the city, its job market and its LGBTQ+ business community.

What is the Country Ambassador Scheme?

The Country Ambassador Scheme is a volunteer network of myGwork members who:

  • Welcome LGBTQ+ professionals who are relocating or exploring a move
  • Share knowledge about local workplace culture and LGBTQ+ inclusion
  • Offer insight on job markets, hiring practices and professional etiquette
  • Connect newcomers to events, networks and inclusive employers

Country Ambassadors live and work in the locations they support. They bring first-hand experience of how open local workplaces feel, which sectors lead on inclusion and which networks matter for career growth.

How the idea started

The concept grew from the experience of myGwork co-founder and CMO, Adrien Gaubert. Early in his career, Adrien moved from Paris to Guangzhou and wanted to meet other LGBTQ+ professionals for support, mentoring and advice. He searched for a structured professional network that centred LGBTQ+ people and found a gap.

Years later, together with co-founder Pierre Gaubert and the myGwork team in London, that early challenge evolved into a clear solution. The Country Ambassador Scheme gives LGBTQ+ professionals a way to find each other across borders and support one another through relocations and career shifts.

How a Country Ambassador can help

Ambassadors act as peers and guides. Depending on their background and availability, they may support you with:

Inclusive employers

  • Suggestions on companies with strong LGBTQ+ policies
  • Real-world perspectives on how colleagues experience inclusion day to day

Local professional networks

  • Recommendations for LGBTQ+ business and industry meetups
  • Information about professional associations, conferences and ERGs

Job-hunting in a new environment

  • Insight into local recruitment styles and hiring timelines
  • Tips on CV formats, interview expectations and communication norms
  • Suggestions for navigating a job search when the primary language feels unfamiliar

LGBTQ+ visibility and culture at work

  • Honest discussions about workplace attitudes toward LGBTQ+ people
  • Context on legal protections and everyday realities in the city or country

Settling into the community

  • Guidance on LGBTQ+ events with a professional or community focus
  • Signposts to organisations and initiatives where you can connect and contribute

This kind of knowledge shortens the learning curve and gives newcomers a sense of direction from the start.

How to find a Country Ambassador

Any myGwork member can look for a Country Ambassador through the platform:

  1. Log in to your myGwork account or create a profile.
  2. Use member search and filters to locate Country Ambassadors in the city or country that interests you.
  3. Review profiles to see each Ambassador’s sector, role and experience.
  4. Send a connection request and a short message explaining who you are and what you hope to learn.

The platform creates a professional environment where LGBTQ+ people and allies connect around careers, inclusion and shared experience.

We have Country Ambassadors within our very own team too, with Customer Success Managers Lauren Schweppe and Pedro Sanchez acting as peers and guides for their respective countries!
