NBA star Jason Collins marries long-time boyfriend Brunson Green in a beautiful Texas wedding

Jason Collins recently celebrated his marriage. Known as the first openly gay active player in the NBA, Collins wed film producer Brunson Green over the weekend in Austin, Texas, where the couple resides, according to ‘Out Sports’.

Collins and Green have been together for around ten years. Their engagement reportedly took place at the Los Angeles Lakers Pride Night in 2023, according to some attendees.

Although the newlyweds have not posted extensively about their wedding on social media, Collins shared several Instagram stories highlighting the love from friends, family, and longtime New Jersey Nets teammate Richard Jefferson. Collins and Jefferson played on the first Nets team to reach the NBA Finals.

The rehearsal dinner was reportedly very entertaining, featuring two local drag queens performing the flying-carpet scene from Disney’s Aladdin.

For those unfamiliar with Green, he produced the highly successful film The Help, which depicted the lives of Black maids working for White families in the South. The film was a box office hit, earning $216 million (approximately £160 million) on a $25 million (approximately £18.5 million) production budget, and received nominations for Best Picture at both the Academy Awards and PGA Awards. It starred Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Emma Stone. Green's upcoming project, Regretting You, is currently in production.

In 2013, Collins made history with a Sports Illustrated cover coming out publicly as gay while he was a free agent. He later signed with the Brooklyn Nets, helping the team reach the second round of the NBA Playoffs that year. His success demonstrated that an openly gay man could thrive in major American men’s professional sports.

Since then, Collins has actively contributed to fostering LGBTQ+ acceptance in sports, dedicating significant time to this cause. He has collaborated with the NBA for years, attending various events, including an LGBTQ+ youth clinic at the men’s NCAA basketball Final Four.
