Following the success of the gay coming-of-age film Love, Simon, Netflix has announced its own gay teen comedy. Produced by Ben Stiller, Alex Strangelove follows Alex Truelove, an ordinary, well-rounded high school senior who is about to lose his virginity to his girlfriend when he meets a handsome gay kid from the other side of town.
Meeting this new boy sets Alex on “a rollercoaster ride of emotions as he explores his sexual identity and navigates the pitfalls of high school,” according to newnownext.
The film stars Daniel Doheny, Antonio Marziale, Joanna Adler, Isabella Amara, and William Ragsdale, and his directed by Craig Johnson, who also directed The Skeleton Twins.
Johnson describes the film as “a fun, funny, and flirty film located down the street from Pretty in Pink, around the corner from Superbad, and right next door to new neighbor Love, Simon.”
The film will be released on Netflix on June 8.
