Netflix Cancels LGBT+ Favourites ‘I Am Not Ok With This’ And ‘The Society’
August 27, 2020Netflix has gone ahead and canceled two favourite LGBT-inclusive shows, ‘I Am Not Ok With It’ and ‘The Society’. Both shows have gained critical acclaim and fans all around the world.
‘I Am Not Okay With This’ features Sydney, a teen girl whose father recently died, who struggles to acclimate back into her “normal” life, which is further derailed when she discovers she has telekinetic superpowers — and feelings for her best friend.
‘The Society’ followed a group of teens who return from a field trip and realise that everyone in their town has disappeared. The apocalyptic drama featured a celebrated relationship between two boys named Sam and Grizz, one of whom was deaf and played by deaf actor Sean Berdy.
As ‘Variety’ reports, Netflix canceled the shows due to scheduling conflicts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as safety and budget concerns.
“We’ve made the difficult decision not to move forward with second seasons of ‘The Society’ and ‘I Am Not Okay With This,'” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement. “We’re disappointed to have to make these decisions due to circumstances created by COVID, and we are grateful to these creators, including: Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry at 21 Laps Entertainment for ‘I Am Not Okay With This;’ Chris Keyser, Marc Webb and Pavlina Hatoupis for ‘The Society;’ and all the writers, casts and crews who worked tirelessly to make these shows for our members around the world.”
