A new study from the Williams Institute has found the number of Americans who identify as LGBT+ is around 11.3 million people, or 4.5 percent of the total population of the US.
Among the statistics found, Washington DC had the highest percentage of LGBT+ people, while North Dakota had the lowest.
On average LGBT+ people were also younger and poorer than the rest of the population, with a median income of below $24,000.
Only 23 percent were over the age of 50 and 56 percent were under the age of 35.
They also found that only 0.6 percent of the population was trans – or roughly 1.4 million adults.
