Non-Binary Model Jamie Windust Quit ‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ Because of Homophobic Set
November 27, 2018Non-binary model Jamie Windust has taken to twitter to reveal why they quit the set of Fantastic Beasts: the Crimes of Grindelwald, reports Out Magazine.
Windust was on set for a week, but left because of “atrocious” conditions that were rampant with “misogyny, homophobia, transphobia”.
“I want to use this opportunity not to call out people, but to now for the future ensure we try and create safe working environments for trans/NB people where sometimes they’re forgotten,”Windust tweeted on a post that now has more 23,000 likes.
Windust said the cast were constantly being split into male or female categories: “I talked to people on the team about it, but they did not really seem to care. They just said we have segregated sections, and that is what we are going to stick to.
“On set, we were split between men and women.
“When we arrived, we’d get dressed and be segregated into male and female, and then there would be one big tent where we could mingle.
“But as soon as we had to go somewhere, men would line up and then women would line up. It was like school, we’d be segregated in two lines. If they ever needed to do things, they’d ask: ‘Can the men do this, and the women do this.'”
Windust recalled how some of the extras “did appear queer and … some of the men would use slurs towards them, or generally being dismissive of them because they were gay, or incredibly misogynistic about women and being very derogatory.
“I felt outnumbered because I felt I didn’t need to make a scene. In terms of non-binary people there, I didn’t know if I was the only one, and it could have looked like I was causing a scene because, in the grand scheme of things, they aren’t going to listen to me.”
