Omar Apollo joins cast list of Luca Guadagnino’s movie ‘Queer’

Singer Omar Apollo, known for hit songs Evergreen (You Didn't Deserve Me At All) and Ugotme, will make his acting debut in Guadagnino’s upcoming movie ‘Queer.’ The film is scheduled to premiere at the Venice International Film Festival in September, according to ‘Variety’.

‘Queer’s first leaving of cast member was in April 2023, revealing the casting of Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey for the leading roles. The movie, based on the William S. Burroughs novel set in 1940s Mexico City, follows expatriate William Lee (Craig) who develops a fascination with discharged soldier Eugene Allerton (Starkey). The duo embarks on a journey to South America in search of a mystical drug called “yage,” believed to enhance psychic abilities. Notable collaborators on the project include Justin Kuritzes, British designer Jonathan Anderson, and composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

The unexpected casting of Apollo in the movie marks his first foray into acting. In response to the news, Apollo expressed excitement on social media, acknowledging Guadagnino as his favourite director.

Guadagnino has an array of projects in development, including a reunion with ‘Challengers’ actor Josh O’Connor for an adaptation of the Italian novel ‘Separate Rooms,’ featuring Lea Seydoux. He is also set to direct the thriller ‘After the Hunt,’ boasting a star-studded cast with names like Julia Roberts, Chloë Sevigny, Andrew Garfield, and Ayo Edibiri.

With Guadagnino’s prolific output, it’s safe to say these projects are more than just idle talk, showcasing his determination akin to that of Ryan Murphy, particularly appealing to the artistic community.
