Openly Bisexual Kyrsten Sinema Sworn In By Mike Pence

January 4, 2019

The first openly bisexual senator, Kyrsten Sinema, was sworn in today by Vice President Mike Pence, reports the Hill.

Sinema, who is divorced and the only member of Congress not affiliated with any religion, was sworn in on a law book from the Library of Congress containing texts of the US and Arizona constitutions.

“Kyrsten always gets sworn in on a Constitution simply because of her love for the Constitution,” a spokesperson for the congresswoman said.

She joked with Pence when it was noted the spot next to her (usually reserved for a partner or spouse) was empty, “Oh, it says spouse… Could we get a spouse?”

The Arizona Democrat won by a narrow margin in the November midterm elections, and made history as the first bisexual, and only second-ever out-LGBT+ person, to be elected to the Senate.
