Oregon judge allows trans student to use correct locker room

A judge in Oregon has ruled in favour of a trans boy, allowing him to use the boys locker-room in his school, reports the Associated Press.

The case was brought to the judge by families of the school who felt uncomfortable when Elliot Yoder, the transgender boy who was 14 at the time, started using the male locker-room. They alleged Yoder created a sense of “embarrassment, humiliation, anxiety, intimidation, fear, apprehension, and stress produced by using the restroom with students of the opposite sex.”

The suit was dismissed by U.S. District Judge Marco Hernandez, with a 56-page ruling affirming the rights of transgender students.

“We are thrilled with the judge’s decision,” Brook Shelley, board chair of Basic Rights Oregon, told the AP.
