TEDx Talks started as a conference back in 1990, since then they have grown to over 30,000 films and presentations in 130 countries. They give a global audience the opportunity to learn from some of the world best thinkers and to hear experiences from incredible people across the world. 1). Jamie Windust, non-binary icon and activist. What’s not adore about Jamie? Award-winning LGBTQIA+ Editor in Chief, Freelance Writer, Public Speaker and Model. Their magazine FRUITCAKE was the 2018 winner at Graduate Fashion Week and their TEDx Talk will bring you tears.
2). Munroe Bergdorf is a British model and activist who can commonly be found on the catwalk. She was hired by L’Oréal as their first ever trans model, and then swiftly and controversially fired, after pointing out racism within the industry. Since then her career has soared her TEDx Talk delves into her experience as a trans woman of colour in this industry.
4). Tiq and Kim Katrin Milan discuss pure queer love. The married activists spread nothing but joy and with queer love often hard to navigate in a modern world, this talk is a breath of fresh air.
5). Laxmi Tripathi is a member of the oldest ethnic transgender community in the world. She’s an advocate for the rights of the hijra, who do not identify as the binary ‘male’ or ‘female’ and has worked to change global forums on HIV and AIDS to better support gender non-conforming people. Her TEDx Talk draws on her own experiences and is both beautiful and empowering.
6). Eric Anthony Dorsa says when he came out as a gay man and again as a drag queen, he simply opened a door. This talk is an inspiring tale of bravery in an often cruel world.
7). Sarah McBride is an American LGBT rights activist who made national headlines when she came out as transgender while acting as body president at an American University. She came out in the student newspaper and her story is heartfelt and uplifting.
8). Katie Cattermole discussing the sexualisation of lesbians, an issue most queer women will be familiar with and one that is too often overlooked. Her personal experience told in London, Southbank brings the issue to light in an authentic way.
9). Misty Gedlinske discusses the erasure and invisibility of bisexuals. Her talk about living your authentic life will leave you feeling moved and empowered as an ally to the bisexual community!
