Outrage in San Antonio as man who pushed trans woman to her death will not be tried

Last April, the body of a trans woman, Kenne McFadden, was found in the San Antonio River. Two months later, Mark Daniel Lewis was arrested and charged with manslaughter. A judge has now ruled that Lewis will not be tried for manslaughter and will be free to go.

The authorities believe McFadden was intoxicated when she was pushed and that this was the cause of her drowning. Lewis maintains that he kissed McFadden and pushed her away, but that he never intended for her to fall in the river.

In his ruling, the judge said, “this is a terrible tragedy that occurred,” but that it did not merit the charge for manslaughter.

Upon hearing the ruling McFadden’s mother collapsed and had to be rushed to the hospital.

LGBT+ activists have protested the ruling, writing on Facebook, “We demand justice for Kenne. We refuse to go away and will show up to make our voices heard!”
