Pennsylvanian bridal shop closes its doors forever rather than serve a single lesbian wedding

A bridal shop in Pennsylvania has announced on Facebook that they will be closing down in response to new anti-discrimination laws. W.W. Bride Boutique is a Christian owned bridal store in Bloomsburg which made headlines last year when it refused to sell wedding dresses to a lesbian couple.

Lisa Boucher, co-owner of the store, has said to a local Christian newspaper, the closing is to prevent any further incidents: “I guess what would happen is that a customer would come in and once we deny them, they would sue us… It’s kind of hard to promote a business when you are being attacked.”

In the Facebook post announcing the closure, they quoted Matthew 19:4 from the Bible and said: “We have the right given to us by God and the Constitution to live our lives according to our faith. We will not be forced by government, local ordinances or bullies to participate in something that goes against our faith.”

While a crowdfunding page has been organised by a group called “Warriors for Christ” to benefit the employees of the store Boucher admits they have no current plans for the future: “We are kind of just resting on God’s Word and hoping that He is going to pull us through it and open some sort of doors.”

The city ordinance, which outlaws this kind of discrimination against gay people, will come into effect later this year.
