The Advertising Council has introduced a new advertisement as part of its campaign supporting the LGBTQ+ community, shedding light on legal discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in the United States.

On Wednesday, August 14, the council unveiled ‘Love Has No Labels,’ a campaign seeking to foster a more inclusive and accepting society by addressing discrimination faced by the queer community.

This latest initiative, dubbed ‘American Dreams,’ is part of the efforts by the U.S.A. non-profit organisation dedicated to creating and distributing public service announcements for various sponsors.

As ‘MSN’ reports, in a 60-second video, several families are depicted living joyfully together until a door slams, transitioning to a black screen that interrupts the dreamlike imagery and reveals startling statistics impacting queer individuals. The text reads: “American reality: in over 50 percent of US states, you could be legally denied housing if you’re LGBTQ+,” followed by headshots of several community members.

“We all deserve a place to call home. That’s an American dream,” the individuals state before the advertisement directs viewers to lovehasnolabels.com for additional information.

The ad points out that currently, 28 states in the US do not have laws protecting the LGBTQ+ community from housing discrimination. Last year, a lesbian couple recounted to PinkNews their experience of feeling “shocked, fearful, and anxious” after a Christian landlord told them to “get out” while they were viewing an apartment. Moreover, research indicates that 50 percent of LGBTQ+ Americans have faced harassment, termination, or denial of promotion at work due to their identity.

Lisa Sherman, president and CEO of the Ad Council, stated: “No one should face discrimination because of who they are. This new campaign was designed to empower individuals nationwide to recognize the inequities affecting so many.

“LGBTQ+ people should have the opportunity to pursue their dreams.”

Since the campaign’s inception in 2015, its messages have reached over 430 million people.
