March 20, 2019

Concert goers were allegedly searched for rainbow flags before being allowed to watch the Red Hot Chili Peppers preform at the Pyramid of Giza in Cairo, reports the New Arab.

"Entering Red Hot Chili Peppers concert at Cairo Pyramids. Police officer asks: "you have no flags?" Asked what type of flags responds: "flag for the gays. Not allowed," tweeted journalist Samer al-Atrush who attended the concert.

"Officer at entrance of #redhotchilipeppers concert asks if we have any flags with us: 'With the colors, for the gays, not allowed!' #Egypt" tweeted journalist Eduard Cousin

Another Twitter user said their child’s crayons were confiscated in case they were to draw a rainbow flag.

The incident follows a recent crackdown on LGBT+ expression in the country, with 75 people arrested at a Mashrou' Leila concert for "promoting sexual deviancy"by displaying the flag.
