Pride in Education launches free e-book to support educators ahead of Trans+ History Week 2026

May 6, 2026

Already read by over 1000 people across 23 countries, the guide is a unique practical resource for education practitioners at every level

Pride in Education, the volunteer-led organisation committed to advancing LGBTIQA+ intersectional inclusion across the education sector, has launched a landmark free e-book to support educators ahead of Trans+ History Week 2026, which runs 4–10 May.

Celebrating Trans+ History Week: A Practical Guide for UK Educators is a comprehensive, evidence-based resource designed to help teachers, school leaders and education practitioners — from primary school to university — mark Trans+ History Week with confidence, compassion and clarity.

A Resource Built on the Principle of "Nothing About Us Without Us"

The e-book was created by Pride in Education and reviewed by trans+ and non-binary practitioners, activists, community members and parents, ensuring that the voices of those most affected are woven through every page. It covers every phase and setting, including primary, secondary, post-16 and further education, higher education, ESOL and specialist provision. It also addresses the needs of disabled learners, offers guidance on working with parents and carers, and sets out clearly what the Equality Act 2010 and Ofsted framework require of schools and institutions in 2026.

Why This Resource Matters Now

Trans+ History Week was founded by Marty Davies to mark 6 May 1933, when the Nazis raided the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, the world's first trans clinic. It is a week of remembrance, celebration and resistance. In 2026, with trans+ young people facing an increasingly hostile environment in the UK, the work of educators has never been more important.

Pride in Education's own report, Inclusion or Restriction?, published in February 2026, found that 100% of trans and non-binary young people in a dedicated focus group had experienced bullying and unequal treatment at school because of their identity, and that 70% felt their teachers were not equipped to support them. The report also highlights that LGBTQ+ young people, and trans+ young people in particular, are over-represented in child suicide statistics in England.

The e-book is a direct response to this evidence, giving educators the tools, language and confidence to act not only during Trans+ History Week, but throughout the year.

Voices

Laïla El-Métoui, Founder of Pride in Education, said:

"Every time you use someone's correct name and pronouns, every time you challenge a harmful stereotype, every time you teach a history that has been hidden, you are changing lives. You are modelling a better world. This e-book is dedicated to every education practitioner who shows up, speaks up and stands with their learners. You are the change this generation needs."

Marty Davies, Founder of Trans+ History Week, said:

"I am so grateful to the Pride in Education team and their contribution to Trans+ History Week. It helps educators offer more than just a history lesson; it offers a lifeline, ensuring every young person knows: 'you belong, and you have a future'."
