Protestor hijacks UK contestant’s Eurovision performance

May 14, 2018

A protestor took to the stage of the 2018 Eurovision song competition and briefly stole UK contestant SuRie’s microphone. He managed to shout, “For the Nazi’s of the U.K. media we want freedom” before being tackled by security and taken away.

SuRie continued singing regardless and received a standing ovation from the crowd.

It was later revealed SuRie was labelled a “terror target” simply for representing the UK, and had been protected by security guards for the duration of the event.

“They are all military guys from the SAS so they take everything very seriously. They are really looking after me,” she said.

“They don’t tell me much about what they’re doing… they’re behind the scenes surveying everything and keeping everything in check. They are great guys. They make you feel safe. I haven’t felt nervous at all.”

SuRie was offered the chance to sing again, but turned it down in a statement released by the BBC: “SuRie and her team are extremely proud of her performance and have together decided that there is absolutely no reason to perform the song again.”
