Renowned Queer Artists & Allies Support Charity Art Auction to Defend LGBTQ+ Rights

Forbidden Colours, the Europe-wide fund which supports LGBTQ+ people to live their lives with dignity and respect, has launched its very first online art charity auction supported by renowned queer artists and allies.

“The auction aims to raise much-needed funds to defend the rights of the LGBTQ+ community across Europe, especially in countries like Poland and Hungary, where LGBTQ+ rights have yet to be won,” stated Rémy Bonny, Executive Director at Forbidden Colours.

The charity art auction, which started last week, is supported by donations from both renowned queer artists and LGBTQ+ allies. Popular art works have been donated by Pascal Bernier, Andy Warhol, Jeffrey Cheung, Nathalie Di Marino, Oleg Dou, Jean-Pierre Duplan, Claire Fanjul, Takashi Murakami, Delphine de Saxe-Cobourg, Sam Taylor-Wood, Eric de Ville, Dana Wyse and many more.

In fact, Princess Delphine de Saxe-Cobourg’s donation (number 18, titled Attitud) is a particularly important one as an ally because it’s the first time that a member of the Belgian royal family has openly donated to a LGBTQ+ cause. Acceptance is a theme that the Princess – the newest member of the Belgian family – shares with the LGBTQ+ community, having spent years fighting to be recognised as an official royal family member.

“There are 20 art pieces in total, and Forbiden Colours hopes to raise over 25,000 euros,” confirmed Bonny. Interested art collectors can bid online by registering on Drouot Digital, the leading French platform for sales of art and collectibles, or by visiting Art22 Gallery (67 Place du Jeu de Balle) in Brussels.
