RNC supports Trump’s military transgender ban

The Republican National Committee has given its support to Trump’s planned transgender ban in the military. The committee passed a resolution on Friday to support the President’s policy. The President made the declaration on twitter almost a year ago that he would remove trans people from the military and was met immediately with anger and controversy. Trump claimed trans people were a drain on the system and were better left out of defence forces.

The American Medical Association said in a statement: “There is no medically valid reason to exclude transgender individuals from military service. Transgender individuals are serving their country with honour, and they should be allowed to continue doing so.”

Transgender people have been serving openly in the military for the last nineteen months and there has yet to be any major issue. “They only disruption has come President Trump and others who are determined to jeopardize military readiness to advance their extremist political agenda,” Mara Keisling, executive director of the National Centre for Transgender Equality said in a statement.

“The is that we’ve shown, both through studies and experience, that open service by transgender troops is good for the military,” she continues, “We look forward to the courts settling this once and for all so that transgender troops can focus on protecting our country without having to worry about their security every day.”
