In a misogynistic and transphobic attack, myGwork role model and speaker Nicté Chávez has been left injured and afraid. The incident took place in Coacalco de Berriozábal, one of 125 municipalities in the State of Mexico, on Wednesday 10th January, when Chávez’s neighbour assaulted her and her wife.

In the lead-up to the incident, Chávez had been threatened and intimidated by the attacker for weeks, and when she tried to report it to the authorities, they informed her that without injuries they couldn’t act.
On the evening of the incident, police never showed up, but an ambulance did arrive with paramedics who cleaned Chávez’s wounds and confirmed that she would need surgical attention.
Chávez has taken to social media to share what has happened to her in the hope that some justice will come out of this. Her LinkedIn post describing the incident with information on the workplace of her attacker has now been shared hundreds of times, with people commenting support and outrage from around the world.

In the three-part LinkedIn post, Chávez urges those reading to bring more awareness to the violence that the trans community continues to face and to focus the conversation on the perpetrators and the harm they cause.
“Let's talk about the almost 650 aggressors who took the lives of trans women between 2008 and 2022,” Chávez shares. “It is very different to change the narrative and put the finger on the aggressors and not the victims.”
Chávez is a trans woman, writer, podcaster, and speaker on Diversity and Inclusion. She was named a Top Voice LGBTQ+ and Content Creator by LinkedIn MX, as well as being recognized for the second consecutive year as one of the 100 most influential leaders in the LGBTQ+ community in MX by MIT Sloan.
