Russian Police Confiscate School Drawings for Promoting Homosexuality

Russian police have seized 17 drawings from a school in Yekateringburg for breaking the country’s anti-gay propaganda law, Ural.ru reports.

The drawings were part of a competition for the International Day of Tolerance open to students from the 5thto 11thgrades.

One of the drawings featured same-sex couples under the heading: “We don’t choose our appearance, orientation, or race. We are all unique in our own ways.”

Another had three people of different genders and ethnicities under the question: “We are tolerant. Are you?”

While several others had depictions of rainbows.

Yekateringburg officials have defended the drawings, saying “The figures reflect universal human values: friendship, respect, mutual understanding and acceptance of the values ​​and attitudes of other people. Some works depict a rainbow—a symbol of purity, childhood, friendship, personifying the unity of peoples of different nationalities.”

“There were no drawings promoting non-traditional values ​​at the exhibition.”

A mother of one of the children at the school had reported the drawings to police.
