Fatima Ali, an Apprentice from Savers' Bedford store, discusses what Ramadan means to her and her experiences of faith.
During the holy month of Ramadan, millions around the world begin a journey of spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and devotion.
Here at Savers, we celebrate the diverse traditions and beliefs of our colleagues, and today, we are proud to share the personal reflections of one of our #HappyTeam, Fatima, on what Ramadan truly means to her:
How do you personally experience and observe Ramadan?
I experience Ramadan by fasting through out the whole month, eating when the sun is down and keeping the fast when the sun is up. I like to read my prayers on time when I can and break my fast at work when it is time to eat and when I'm home I have a home-cooked meal and read the Quran. Ramadan is quite hard when you're working and in my experience it's mostly the thirst but what keeps me going is the good deeds I'll get for keeping my fasts.
What does Ramadan mean to you?
What Ramadan means to me is the time of month where it is peaceful, and it means there is more of an increase of my religion being shared as a lot of people become more religious around this time of year. Also around this time of year, we get together and give zakaat which means giving money to the less fortunate ones.
What’s one thing you’d love people to Unlearn about Ramadan?
One thing I would love for people to unlearn about Ramadan is that we dont just fast because we are told to but we do it because we want to. It brings us more closer to our Religion, our family and friends, it helps us mentally and physically in this time of month, and it helps us understand to be patient and not have greed.
Ramadan Mubarak!
