Singapore revokes marriage license for couple after one of them transitions

A couple in Singapore are taking their case to the High Court after their marriage license was taken away when one of them transitioned. Homosexuality and same-sex marriage are still illegal in the country, trans people are allowed to marry, but only after they have surgically transitioned and only to someone of the opposite gender.

Faith and Bryce Volta registered to marry in 2015. Faith registered as a male and promised not to transition before the wedding. They got married in 2015 and in 2016 Faith had gender-affirming surgery. Six months later the Registrar revoked their marriage.

The couple has won their first challenge to the High Court in January, they will now go to a full judicial hearing.
