Singer Maren Morris talks about coming out as bisexual
September 2, 2024Maren Morris has revealed touching insights into her journey of coming out.
In June, the acclaimed singer-songwriter embraced Pride Month by publicly announcing she is bisexual.
“Happy to be the B in LGBTQ+ happy pride,” she posted on Instagram.
This inspiring message accompanied a series of photos from her RSVP Redux tour in Phoenix, Arizona, which also included a picture of her holding and waving a Pride flag.

Since that pivotal moment, the ‘My Church’ singer has been open about her experience and how her life has evolved after coming out.
As ‘Gay Times’ write, During a recent interview on Sophia Bush’s podcast, Work in Progress, Morris shared that she has recognised her bisexuality from an early age.
“It was something I always knew about myself. I think I’ve always known because, you know, every girl is different,” she expressed.
“But in junior high and high school, I just remember being at sleepovers where maybe a ton of us girls, some of us are super close, some of us are just meeting each other for the first time, and you’re just like, ‘Okay, you’re cute.’
“And then you have this bond, and there’s something so tough to identify because women are just innately wonderful, and we’re lovely, and we just don’t do small talk. From like the age of eight to now, it’s really hard for me to delineate my sexual attraction or just my love of women.” Morris continued by saying that these feelings inspired her new queer anthem ‘Push Me Over,’ which she co-wrote with MUNA.
Elsewhere in the interview, the Humble Quest artist discussed her decision to come out, partly motivated by her publicly embracing her queer dating life and clarifying any fan misconceptions following ‘Push Me Over.’
“I hate the confusion, and I felt like I wanted to celebrate it. And I just wanted to have everything out there. I think those are things that should be forward-facing for me,” she said.
“I was like, my life is so open now; I’m not hiding any portion of myself. So, it was out of a true celebratory nature. It’s Pride Month. I also loved not doing a stupid press release.
“I was just like, ‘I’m going to put it in an Instagram caption on a tour photo.’ I liked keeping it light-hearted because it’s not a thing, for me, that needs like an entire spiel or article on.”
Prior to coming out as bisexual, Maren had consistently used her platform to advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community, from denouncing anti-trans rhetoric and homophobia to raising funds to support local drag queens.
