Self-isolation may not be by choice but if you have to deal with it here are some ideas for you to keep some sanity!

1- Time for self-reflection

Self-reflection and meditation can be very important for a healthy mind. Being alone is something scary, but meditation can help you calm down and find your inner peace. Here are some apps you can use. We have also put together a list of the best apps for self imporvement here.

2- Connect with people

Spend time and listen to the people that live with you. When was the last time you had the chance to sit down and ask to your kids, partner or flat mates: How are you? Not as a courtesy question but to start a meaningful conversation how they really feel and how you really feel. Try this and it will for sure boost your happiness and relieve stress. Here is a great video on Empathy

3- Clear house, clear mind.

Tidy up! A tidy home is a tidy mind. For those who do not know where to start here are some great tips. Involve the whole family and make your kids a part of the cleaning solution by following these tips. If you really feel motivated what about some home staging?

4- A career change?

Think about your career. Sometimes we are too focused on our daily tasks and we do not have time to put things into perspective. Three questions you can now ask yourself:

  • Do I enjoy doing what I do for work?

  • I am paid enough for my job? There are websites such as TotalJobs that can help you check if your employer is being fair!

  • Is your employer inclusive? Can you bring your whole-self to work? You can also look at myGwork’s inclusive employers and job opportunities here.

5- Catch up!

Catch up with relatives over the phone or video conference. How often have you told yourself “I will call them back later when I have time” or “I should really call them; I will call tomorrow”. Well guess what, this weekend you have plenty of time for that!

6- #Workstrong

Connect and talk to your connections on myGwork. You are part of the myGwork family and this means one thing: you are not alone. You can use the invitation tool to invite your new connections for a call or skype. Why not take an online coffee break together? People on myGwork are more open to discussion than on LinkedIn, so enjoy the opportunities that may help drive your career to the next level or simply meet new friends. If you are a mentor, it is time to catch up with your mentees! For mentees this is an ideal time to connect with a mentor.

7- Hired!

Update your professional networks’ profiles. When was the last time you had a look at your myGwork & LinkedIn profiles and did a bit of updating? If you are a myGwork mentor, add it to your LinkedIn page so people can find you easily and if you want employers to know about your sexuality in a subtitle way you can add: member of myGwork in your volunteering experience.

8- Comment allez-vous?

Learn a new language. You do not need to live abroad or attend physical classes to learn a new language. Teachers from all around the world give online individual and group classes. So, get ready to speak local languages this summer!

9- A table!

Start cooking. Do not give into the huge temptation of ordering food online. First this will ruin your finances and it will also put your mind at risk. It has been proven that cooking helps you stabilize your weight. Also, what greater pleasure than to see your lovely ones smile when you bring the meal you cooked to the table? We have put together a list of the best Instagrammers LGBT+ chefs here.
