A new survey from the Hollywood Reporter/Morning Consult has found there is little support for a more diverse iteration of James Bond.
The survey asked more than 2,000 Americans whether they would go see a gay James Bond, a female James bond, or a black James Bond.
52 percent of respondents opposed a gay James Bond, with 28 percent supporting it. In contrast, 52 percent supported a black James Bond to 29 percent opposing one.
The survey also asked whether the respondents were Trump voters and unsurprisingly found 69 percent of them opposed a gay Bond, while 68 percent said they opposed any depiction of Bond that wasn't straight, white and male.
Barbara Broccoli, producer of every Bond film since 1993’s Octopussy, told the Guardian in October: “Bond is male. He’s a male character. He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as a male.
“And that’s fine. We don’t have to turn male characters into women. Let’s just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters.”
