Taiwan Airs Commercial Featuring Same-Sex Parents

A commercial has aired in Taiwan featuring lesbian parents making dinner for their daughter.

The ad was for soy sauce produced by Kimlan Foodsand was aired despite the country voting down equal marriage in a referendum this week.

The commercial follows a working mum as she picks her daughter up from school, revealing she has another mum at home.

“Different families have different flavours,” the ad says.

“Some are richer. Some are lighter. And some… are a little be more special.”

The ad has received an overwhelmingly positive response online.

The LGBT+ community in Taiwan has promised to persevere, with some wanting to fight the outcome of the referendum.

“It’s a bitter blow and a step backwards for human rights in Taiwan,” said Amnesty International Taiwan’s Acting Director, Annie Huang.

“However, despite this setback, we remain confident that love and equality will ultimately prevail.”
