Teens Have Been Jailed Following An Homophobic Attack in Manchester

Two teenagers, David Bailey, 18, and Ashley Roberts, 19, have been jailed after targeting a couple holding hands in Piccadilly station in Manchester. During the homophobic attack, the victims were told "you will burn in hell" while one of the other attackers said "it's disgusting".

Both offenders have been sentenced to 32 months in a young offenders institute. "They were perfectly entitled to walk as they were, hand in hand,” Judge Suzanne Goddard QC told the pair. “Your behaviour was wholly unacceptable that night."

Defending Bailey, Paul Bryning said the defendant 'didn't start' the incident but he accepted involving himself in it. He later says that he was 'young and immature' at the time, and that alcohol was a factor.

Both victims were attacked, with punches and kicks being thrown. Luckily they received minor injuries and are expected a full physical recovery.
