Tennessee Group Creates App to Get LGBT+ Voters to the Polls

A local LGBT+ group in Chattanooga, Tennessee has created an app to help get queer people to the polls, NBC News reports.

The United States is gearing up to hold its midterm elections in November, the outcome of which could tip the control of the Senate and House of Representatives to the Democrats.

The app includes a non-partisan voting guide and offers safe and inclusive ride-sharing to voting centres.

Sydney Valencia, a local transgender woman, said her experience of the app “was pretty easy. I put in the request, and I got a call, and they came and picked me up and brought me there.”

Chari Starr, also a trans woman, volunteers as a driver for the app. “Any time you interact with government agencies as an LGBT person, it can be stressful,” she said.

A local LGBT+ business, plus the Chattanooga Moms for Social Justice, donated their vans SUVs to the app.
