According to ‘MSN’, this season of ‘The Last of Us’ will consist of seven episodes. If the series maintains a weekly release schedule, it is expected to wrap up by May 27. THR mentions that this timing ensures ‘The Last of Us’ will narrowly qualify for the Emmy nominations this year.

Taking place five years after the events of the first season, Season 2 will be inspired by the 2020 video game ‘The Last of Us Part II’. New characters will be introduced, including Kaitlyn Dever portraying Abby, a complex and darker character from the game.

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are set to return as Joel and Ellie. Additionally, Catherine O’Hara will take on the role of a mysterious new character, which the actress hinted will bring some “good dark comedy.”

‘The Last of Us’ franchise originated in 2013 with the release of its first video game. Although only one sequel, ‘The Last of Us Part II’, has been produced, a remastered edition was released in 2024.

Earlier this year, HBO executive Francesca Orsi indicated that the series is likely to span “four seasons,” suggesting that the storyline may eventually extend beyond the scope of the games after Season 2.
