Thousands Show Up for Trans Pride London: “Today Is About Love and Rage”
July 10, 2023Over 25,000 people attended London Trans+ Pride over the weekend. This is the fifth year in a row the event has taken place, starting in Trafalgar Square and marching through the city with speeches from prominent trans activists and campaigners.
Organisers of Trans+ Pride have reiterated that the event is a protest, with attendees adding it is being held in “response to the injustices” faced by trans+ people.
“Trans rights are human rights, and we all have a responsibility to show up for the trans community. Today has been filled with love and trans joy, and as a strong ally to the community, I wouldn’t have missed it,” one attendee, Dominika Navratilova, commented.
“It is also a protest. We have so much work to do to fight for an equal world for trans people, and the number of people here today is testament to how many people are committed to creating a world where every single person can live freely as themselves.”

A sea of blue, white and pink flags could be seen across the capital, with banners and signs reading “No LGB without the T,” “Trans people deserve better,” and “We will keep fighting for you,” among others.
Speakers included activist and model Munroe Bergdorf, who commented, "Today is about love and rage.” Actor Yasmin Finnley was also present, leading a chant of “Trans rights are human rights.”
Other speakers urged the government to act on making trans healthcare a priority and tackle the unbearable long waiting times to access lifesaving treatment.
Pride events continue across the country over the coming months, many focusing on trans rights, with Brighton Trans Pride taking place this weekend.
