Three Top Producers Leave The Ellen Show After Internal Investigation
August 19, 2020Three top producers on ‘The Ellen Show’ have left the popular television talk show, after an internal investigation into complaints of bullying, racism and sexual misconduct was conducted against them.
A spokesperson for Warner Bros, which produces the show, said that three senior producers had “parted ways” with the show.
As ‘The Guardian’ writes, reports of a hostile workplace have included criticism that DeGeneres is mean-spirited, prompting a social media campaign calling for her replacement as well as public statements of support for the comedian from stars like Katy Perry, Kevin Hart, Alec Baldwin and Ashton Kutcher.
DeGeneres spoke to the staff of her show via Zoom in what Variety said was an emotional and apologetic address.
According to multiple sources, DeGeneres told the staff she was “not perfect” and realised that in the effort for the show to run as a “well-oiled machine,” sometimes leaders were not as sensitive to “human beings” as they should have been. She added that reading disturbing allegations about the atmosphere on the show was “heartbreaking.”
The accusations of a hostile working environment at the daytime talkshow were first made by former staff members in a BuzzFeed article in July. Warner Bros responded by saying it was investigating and that several staffing changes were being implemented.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show has won multiple awards since it began airing in 2003, and DeGeneres herself has received the presidential medal of freedom and the Mark Twain prize for American humor.
