Tom Daley wears rainbow badge when winning medal in Russia

diver Tom Daley defiantly wore a rainbow pride badge when accepting a silver
medal in Kazan, Russia. Daley came in second in the 3-metre synchronised dive
at the 2018 World Diving Series.
Daley
proudly displayed his badge on an Instagram story, with the caption: “Representing on the podium!”
Russia
continues to vilify and prosecute the LGBT+ community. With an anti-gay
propaganda law still in effect and the recent one year anniversary of the
Chechnya purges – when news broke
of gay men being rounded up, killed and tortured by authorities in Chechnya, an
Islamic autonomous region of Russia. There has still yet to be any formal
criminal investigation issued form the Kremlin, and many of the victims of the
purge are still missing.
